Job Description:

Works 1:1 with an individual Grade 8 student from the hours of 1:00-3:45 Monday-Thursday and 1:00-2:45 Friday.
Establish a positive and supportive relationship with the student(s) which encourages independent functioning rather than dependency.
Redirect student behavior and encourage positive student interactions with peers.
Support established classroom and behavior management procedures.
Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing the skills of individual students based on their needs, interests or abilities.
Assist with the supervision of student(s), including during emergency drills, assemblies, play/recess periods, lunchtime, trips to the office, nurse, or field trips.
Support the student in completing teacher assigned work.
Help the student transition from one room to another if needed.
Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about the assigned student(s).
Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned.
Perform other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
Communicate on a regular basis with both classroom teachers and parents.
Qualifications:

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions regarding the safety and welfare of students.
Ability to perform assigned duties and tasks with a minimum of direction.
Ability to maintain an effective public, student and co-worker relationships.
Demonstrate good attendance and be on time each day.
Display a positive and collaborative nature when working with staff.
Encourage a positive learning environment in each setting within the school.
Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Refer decision-making and questions from parents to the supervising teacher.
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience working with students with learning and behavior disabilities in middle school is a plus.
Certification:
State of Illinois paraprofessional, or teaching license preferred
